Introduction :
The GitHub All In Africa Program emphasizes collaboration, community, and education. Open source thrives on collaboration, community, and education—values at the core of GitHub’s All In Africa Program. My passion for social good has always guided my journey.
As a tech enthusiast I’ve long seen open source as a powerful way to contribute to meaningful projects while advancing my technical skills. For years, I followed open source trends, eager for opportunities to participate When I discovered the All In Africa Program, I immediately recognized it as the perfect chance to immerse myself in the world of open source collaboration.
Experience in the Program:
One of the most significant milestones of my journey was contributing to my first open source project. This momentous achievement marked my entry into the global developer community and reinforced my belief in the transformative potential of open collaboration. The program sessions were intellectually stimulating, highly engaging, and filled with the infectious energy of collective learning. Despite an ongoing war in my country, mastering Git and GitHub enabled my partner and me to work remotely on our graduation project a testament to the power of technology in overcoming adversity.
Learning and Development:
Through the program, I completed all of the GitHub Skills courses, progressing from setting up an account to confidently merging pull requests. This structured learning path steadily built my confidence and provided a comprehensive understanding of both Git and GitHub. Acquiring proficiency in these tools has been a game-changer, equipping me with the skills needed to navigate remote work challenges and leverage technology for social good.
Personal Growth and Community:
Before joining All In Africa, my understanding of open source was limited. Today, I recognize open source as more than just a method of software development it is a dynamic, community-driven movement with the power to drive social impact. The program introduced me to a supportive network of like-minded individuals, as well as an inspiring regional manager who consistently encouraged my growth. This experience not only strengthened my technical expertise but also instilled in me the confidence to pursue a career in software engineering.
Open Source and the Sustainable Development Goals:
Open source software plays a pivotal role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). My passion for open source led me to enroll in training as a GitHub DPG Open Source Community Manager, where I will collaborate on AI-driven initiatives. My long-term vision is to cultivate an open source community in my country, engage young people in technology, and contribute to rebuilding efforts after the war.
